Khoryug
Khoryug (Rangjung Khoryug Tsungkyob Tsokpa) is an association of Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and nunneries in the Himalayan region that was created in 2009 under the auspices of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje. Its mission is to protect the environment in the Himalayan and Tibetan landscapes.
By solving environmental and climate problems, implementing projects and connecting to local people, Khoryug monasteries and nunneries seek to transform the environmental impact of humans living in the Himalayas while preparing local communities for the impacts of climate change, including increased and more intense disasters.
Loka founder and director, Dekila Chungyalpa, helped establish Khoryug with direction from His Holiness the Karmapa in 2009.
Khoryug has produced 3 key publications that are still used in Himalayan and Tibetan monastic institutions today.
